With almost 60 years combined industry experience our team delivers the highest levels of professional care and support across all services.

Deborah Heyns

Director

Deb has an extensive background in finance and bookkeeping and she is also busy raising 3 small children.

Originally from South Africa, she has been living on the Sunshine Coast for over 11 years, and has a passion for the community and for family. 

Deb genuinley cares for our clients, and her main goal is to ensure each and every client feels valued, listened to and respected. They are not just a number, but a valued member of the DPO Family!

 

Dewet Heyns

Senior P&O Clinician

With over 20 years national and international experience, Dewet has worked in and around some of the most challenging and diverse clinical situations, and has a reputation for delivering innovative and forward-thinking solutions.

Dewet is dedicated to maintaining up-to-date knowledge and skills to ensure his clients are able to make the most informed decisions regarding their care options.

He is passionate about this profession and his clients. He has a genuine knack for understanding patient’s needs and goals,  and always puts them first. He is always willing to go above and beyond for them.

DID YOU KNOW: Dewet once made a prosthetic leg for a cheetah who had gotten his lower limb caught in a poacher’s trap and it had to be amputated.

Senior P&O Technician

Steve is a very familiar face and a well-known and respected name with both clients and industry professionals alike.

With over 43 years of experience, many would have met and been looked after by Steve over the years.

As an amputee himself, Steve has an intimate understanding of the needs of amputees.

DID YOU KNOW? Steve is a past World Record holding Track & Field Paralympian! He has competed in national and international games, winning plenty of gold and silver medals along the way.

He has certainly won our hearts too and the hearts of our clients that he cares for!

Carol has an extensive background in senior operational management roles across a range of business sectors.

With qualifications in a number of disciplines, including business, science, education and training, Carol is committed to supporting the DPO team in ensuring the personalised experiences we provide are both positive and engaging and enhance the life quality and individual expression of our valued clients.

Lexie Purcell

Orthotist

Lexie completed her studies of Prosthetics and Orthotics at the University of the Sunshine Coast in 2019.

 

During her studies Lexie honed her clinical skills working as an Clinical Exercise Physiologist for 3 years and has transferred this knowledge and experience into her role as an Orthotist here at DPO.

 

Lexie's passion is working with paediatric patients and their families to produce functional devices that fit into the family lifestyle, considering implementation challenges and psychosocial factors. She also enjoys workings with complex conditions where she is required to think outside the box to create a device that will meet the client’s needs.

Caitlyn Motum

Admin Support

Caitee joined the Australian Military at 17 years old and completed a fulfilling 11 years in the Royal Australian Navy. Her career achievements, life experience and fulfillment she gained from her time there is something that she will always be grateful for.

When she discharged from the military, she decided to return ‘home’ to QLD and civilian life where she was able to utilise her skills and experience in the administration world. Caitee loves being able to help and support staff and patients in her role here at DPO.

She is also a mother of 3 and a grandma of 1. She loves spending time with her family, exploring the outdoors, and horse riding with her daughter.

Meet the newest member of our team - Allie! 

 

Allie has a long background in property management and all types of administration. She has a strong passion for customer service, loves working with people and helping where she can. 

 

She is also a mum to three young kids, and enjoys getting outdoors and camping with the family but mostly she loves pottering around home while we continue to renovate their family home.

Sarah Cimino

Sarah Cimino

Prosthetist/Orthotist

Sarah graduated from Melbourne's La Trobe University in 2020, with a Bachelor Degree of Applied Science with a Master in Clinical Prosthetis and Orthotics.

She is dedicated to guiding our clients through every step of their journey, showing genuine compassion and truly listening to what they want and their concerns. Sarah loves working with clients of all ages and abilities, but has an interest in Myoelectric Prosthetics, specifically Upper limb.

In her spare time, she enjoy watersports, pottery and has a passion for preserving the environment. She is currently putting procedures in place in the workshop so that we can recycle as much of our workshop waste as possible

Lee has a background in a variety of different professions, ranging from IT all the way to disability / aged care services. 

Since joining us in 2021, she is committed to supporting her DPO team mates and she also brings such a wonderful positive energy to the workshop.

Taylor Aldridge

P&O Technician
Taylor has been working as a P&O Technician for a few years in her native country of New Zealand. She is currently studying a Bachelor of Prosthetics and Orthotics here at at Univeristy of the Sunshine Coast, and is in her final year of her degree.
